A marvel of architecture : Pamban Bridge

Hello readers🙏🏻 Today I will talk about Pamban Bridge which connects sea to Rameshwaram. Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge which  connects town of Mandapam in mainland India with Rameshwaram on pamban island. It was opened on Feb 24 1914.Its the first sea bridge and longest sea bridge which extends for 2.3 kms. It was bigger than Bandra- Worli sea link which is built in 2010.The 6,766 ft tall Pamban Bridge is very beautiful to see.

To reach Rameshwaram we have to cross the Pamban Bridge.

History :

It was started by British Railways in 1885 and was completed in 1912.It took 29 years for completion of a project. This bridge on the Palk strait connects Rameshwaram to the mainland of India. It rests on 145 concrete poles which is prone to storms with its sea waves.

The train comes between the waves of the sea which will be very exciting. It was closed for 85 days in past 105 years old.

Its 1500 ft / 460 m in height.

Structure and Architecture :

The bridge consists of 2-bed bascule section with rolling type of lift spans which was raised for movement of ships. Each case weighted approx 415 tons. Hulls on both sides are opened manually using a levee. In 1988 a road bridge parallel to the rail bridge was also built which is a part of NH4.

Marvellous structure of the bridge is a treat to watch. The breath-taking views of this bridge in Rameshwaram is awestruck.

Its an advanced technological monument in such a short period.

This tourist destination is an engineering marvel and you can click a lot of pictures. Beautiful scenes of ocean in its full grandeur from the bridge. Pamban bridge was longest until the Bandra-Worli sea link which was built in 2010.It has solid and strong construction which can withstand any turbulence like the cyclone storm in 1964.

The bridge suffered major damage  in which several parts were damaged. Many parts were lost in the sea. The rolling life centre span remained intact. It was designed by Scherzer, a german engineer.

It is officially called as Annai Indira Road Bridge. It has been celebrated as a cantilever bridge in Palk strait, part of south Indian railway project. The staff constructed the Neel-Mandir Temple. The temple has 7 domes. You can travel by road to get the insanely splendid views glaring beauty marvel in Rameshwaram. Its best exeperience in Dhanushkodi.

So that's it about the Pamban bridge and its architecture.. Let's meet in next blog.. Do comment the topics...
